“You are not different – you are common. And thus you will do what common people do and behave like common people act.” All fine and well you say…
But what if you could do more – what if you wanted to try to be unique in your own way? Well, try it and lets see what happens… Common people endorse stability, routine, what is proven to work… anything out of the ordinary is frightening and thus “bad”.
Here lies the essence of the “problem” that causes complications. You cannot be innovative without breaking the common people rules. And just by breaking them you are characterized as an instigator and will raise a storm of objections. It doesn’t matter what you do – what matters is that you are not doing what you are expected to do.
Moreover, there is an underlying irony here that is simply astonishing. All the applied methods and theories common people use are invented, suggested or in some way created by “weird” prodigies that are simply not common people. Yet that seems to escape the average joe’s perception and any “proven” method at any given time is treated as the absolute truth.
There are no arguments to be said that can match what history has proven so many times. Exceptional people have never stuck to the norm, to what is accustomed and what is expected. They always pushed things forward surpassing expectations.
This is the choice we all have to make at some point in our lives – be the same or be unique. Most people unfortunately will not even have to question themselves because they don’t have anything unique to offer. And that is fine – there is nothing wrong with being common.
At some point all should realize the difference between “common” and “normal”. “Common” is what’s ordinary but “normal” includes other groups of people, less ordinary but still acceptable. Conclusion?…
I never wanted to be different – just not ordinary
